Endemic Birdwatching – A World-Class Destination – Sinharaja’s extraordinary avifauna includes endemic species such as the red-faced malkoha, green-billed coucal, Sri Lanka blue magpie, ashy-headed laughingthrush and Sri Lanka spurfowl – birds that experienced ornithologists specifically travel from Europe, North America and Japan to observe. Mixed foraging flocks of up to a dozen endemic species move through the forest in loose associations, and finding and following one of these flocks for thirty minutes delivers an intensity of birdwatching contact rarely matched anywhere in Asia.
